UMB Scout funds had me drawing live digital caricatures at their booth during the Financial Planners Association convention in Boston. It was interesting timing, what with the market in freefall on Monday. But as you can see, my subjects were smiling. The fun-damentals are sound after all!
Caricature subjects can download soft copies of their faces here.

This young woman, just arrived to San Francisco from Atlanta, wants to make an entrance, so she is sending out a postcard. The caricature will make a good talking point when she’s meeting her new potential clients.

Charles Krug is just about my favorite venue (mostly due to Patty Grantham who runs the events) and I spent a few hours drawing caricatures of guests at their “Tastings on the Lawn” event. This was the last couple of the day and their picture tells cute story.

A double mitzvah at the Stanford Faculty Club. The two honorees are pictured together here. Must have been 80 teens and I drew caricatures of a pretty good chunk of them.

Oracle took over Moscone—and half the city—for this mega trade show. Zanett hired me to help entertain clients at their booth along with the DeLorean car on display. Subjects can download jpegs of their headshots HERE. Here are some pictures of the set up.
I created four custom templates for the caricatures featuring Oracle’s Larry Ellison, Michael Phelps who was at the show signing autographs, Elvis Costello who performed, and Zanette’s Back to the Future theme. Here’s what they looked like.
This gentleman has devoted his retirement to bird photography, and his daughter wanted a personal and original gift.

Zanett hosted an after hours event at the DUCCA lounge and I drew caricatures for them and their guests. This one is a hot yoga enthusiast, which sounds pretty cool.

This large event at the Hilton was marvel comics themed so everyone got a superhero body, like the “Hulk” pictured here. With a couple thousand in attendance the lines were too long for drawing much detail. These averaged about 2.5 minutes each.

This “Island” themed event was held poolside at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara. Here are a few of my favorite caricature subjects. You can see more at the client web site.
This gift caricature illustration was commissioned to honor a lady whose accomplishments are only overshadowed by her personality.
This well known venture capital firm threw a big bash for their partners and staff at a veritable palace of a venue. They thought of everything—pool, waterslides, even a caricature artist! I could use an angel, but alas, everyone left their wings at the office.

Here are a few of my favorite “quick sketches”. There were also a few videos taken at the end and I will post them (with a link here) as soon as possible.
This department throws several off sites a year where new hires are introduced to the company and each other. These caricatures are based on personal info gathered beforehand, so every picture tells a story of some kind, and it is that much easier for everybody to get to know each other.
The Menlo Country Club had me drawing caricatures this labor day afternoon. I have a feeling this caricature will wind up on his dorm wall this fall.

Lots of cool good-looking kids at Finley Center in Santa Rosa. Here is one of the future tennis stars I drew caricatures of.

Google hosted a couple thousand clients on their Mountainview campus and brought in Angie Jordan and myself to draw live digital caricatures. I love the 60″ screen they provided although some of the noses looked a little largish up there. This was the biggest event I can remember doing and the line stretched as far as the eye can see. I found myself leaving out a lot of details, including the theme stuff I had planned, in order to move things along. These pix average 5-6 minutes each.
As a bonus, subjects can download soft copies of their caricatures (without the branding) at
this page to be used any way they like from Facebook to coffeemugs.

Here’s a unique caricature illustration I did for a wedding guest sign-in. It measures 24X30″ and will be framed after the reception. Note the time ribbon with milestones of the relationship. It’s been a long journey, but this state at least, finally gets it.
Since the art is digital it was easy for this client to use it elsewhere in the wedding too.

Hannah was the star of the show at the Silver Creek Country Club in San Jose. She and her friends are crazy for sports so nearly ever caricature I did all night was soccer, basketball or lacross-themed. No complaints though, I had the privilege of drawing the charming family matriarch from South Africa without a soccer ball, and shortly afterward the sexiest pirate I ever laid a pen on.
Marc Schmid and I drew caricatures for a Northbay Entertainment at a carnival sort of setup in Rohnert Park. We both drew nonstop for three hours—kids, family groups, lots of smiles here. This was my first cartoon subject, luckily I got a photo because later I would have been too busy.

NewEra had me as a draw at their booth for the 2008 Share Conference. Don’t ask what it’s about, it’s crazy technical. Anyway their theme was “Integrity Agent” ala 007. I made them templates that reinforced the secret agent theme. Note the lariet holders—very nice! I was pleased to see that people wore them around at the show. As a bonus, my subjects downloaded soft copies here. You can also see the poster I did for this client here.

2000 financial agents at the Hilton kept me and four other caricature artists busy for four hours. This was a particularly fun bunch to draw for. The smiling gentleman on the left, in particular, really made the night special. His colorful commentary on the caricatures I was drawing really energized the crowd, eliciting peals of laughter the like of which I haven’t heard in a while. If he ever wants to quit his job in high finance, he’s got a job with me, working the crowd. He’s a genius in his own right!

A few hundred insurance agents and their spouses were at the SF Marriott at a 60’s themed party. I was decked out pretty hip but forgot to take a picture. Here is a couple I did at the end of the evening when I was drawing at a four minute per couple pace.

The Native American Aids Project took over the White Horse Inn with some wild performers momma never told me about. Sorry, no pix of them, just these relatively sedate revelers.

The guests at this wedding reception were surprised to see a caricature artist, but by the end of the evening they were totally sold. Caricature is a great wedding reception entertainment. It’s personal and interactive, and gives people something scary to do while they are feeling brave with champagne!

This lovely couple was married at Fogarty Winery on Skyline Drive, a venue that boasts the best view of the South Bay you can get with your feet still on the ground. This is the first wedding caricature I’ve done with three subjects, but Angel, their chihuahua couldn’t be left out.

Matanzas Creek Winery has a lilac festival every year where lucky wine lovers feast on great food, wine and the sight of an endless field of lilac. I worked with Marc Schmid on this job, who is the only caricaturist I know who talks more than me. Next time I’ll bring earplugs!

Eight characters on a road trip.

The two superheroic types in this caricature were recently awarded JD Powers service awards and the boss wanted to let them know they were appreciated.

This caricature was done as a tribute to a beloved gentleman golfer who passed away.

A lot of fun things to do there including face painting by my pal Jodi Carr, who you can see in the background. My personal fave entry is pictured here, although it didn’t win it was brilliant!

150 or so Microsofties (is that the correct term?) invaded the Cartoon Art Museum and I drew digital caricatures on my tablet. We had it set up to deliver to the printer and cell phone simultaneously but turned out I couldn’t get reception. The softcopies are still available for download on the web however.
150 or so bankers from the Great Lake region cruising the bay. There were three of us caricaturists aboard and more than a few couples walked out with second or even third opinions. This was the last couple on the boat—hope they didn’t miss the bus!

Client comments: “This is PERFECT! My CEO loves it!”
This corporate event was at the Four Seasons, with about 85 guests from Taiwan, Mexico, and elsewhere. I shared the room with fellow caricaturists Marc Schmid and Marc Richards. Very little English was spoken so we communicated with smiles. It was a little like being in love.

How’s this for a setup? I’m at one of 30 tables in a room at the Nikko Hotel with Mikey of FabulousSavings.com, a world class marketer out of Toronto. Every 5 minutes we get a new client. Mikey’s message was driving sales, so we printed out licences for his customers. He’ll followup by e-mailing jpegs of their caricatures to everyone later, which they can use on their cell phones or networking sites. Live digital caricature created quite a talking point with the crowd, it was great fun.
